The arrival of the Beaujolais nouveau is celebrated every year in France and abroad.

Are you ready for the 17th of November, 2016?

We sure hope you are! As tradition goes every year, the renowned Beaujolais Nouveau, a young red wine, will be presented to the public on the third Thursday of November. At midnight, uncorking will take place, celebrated with fireworks, parties and more! This is the time of the year where you can hear the famous sentence: Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé! (Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived!)

Whether or not you love wine, check out these fun facts about the Beaujolais!
  • Beaujolais Nouveau can be made only with a special breed of grape, the Gamay, and must be hand-picked.
  • The Beaujolais Nouveau is a young wine; only 6 weeks old.
  • Beaujolais Nouveau actually tastes best when it’s consumed slightly chilled, unlike most red wines.
  • Over half of this easy-drinking wine is consumed in France. It is also highly popular in markets such as the U.S., Germany and Japan.
  • Not just about any vineyard can call themselves a maker of Beaujolais Nouveau. They can only be made with grapes from Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages.

Beaujolais is not only made available in France. Many wine cellars and bars across the whole world would take the opportunity to launch an event, showcasing their own wine or drinks. Loisirs-Beaujolais has published a map showing venues around the world where the 2016 Beaujolais could be tasted. Visit their website to find out more. Alternatively, you can check with your local Alliances Française chapters; they are usually celebrating this event.

If you are a wine fanatic and if you are interested to know which vintages are good for the Beaujolais Nouveau, or simply to learn more about other wines from France and the rest of the world, don't forget to check out Wine Mag Vintage Chart (courtesy of Winemag.com).

Happy Drinking! ;)
