The feast day of the Assumption of Mary, also known as the “Assumption Day”, celebrates the day that God assumed Virgin Mary into Heaven following her death according to the Christian belief.

It is celebrated annual on or around August 15th in many European and South American Countries. The Assumption Day is a public holiday in countries such as Austria, Belgium, Chile, Croatia, France, parts of Germany, Greece, Italy, etc…
There are countries such as Australia, Canada, United States and also the United Kingdom where it is not seen as a public holiday.
 
The ancient celebrations include nighttime bonfires and public illuminations, both symbolizing the sun. The color blue is most often associated the Virgin Mary symbolizing truth and clarity, also relating to the color of the sky (heaven).
